How Arachne’s Quest Works

Arachne’s curse takes more than a sympathetic conversation to unravel. The Hades II arachne quest connects friendship milestones, conversations across both routes, and Athena’s keepsake to the Silk and Spitefulness achievement. This Hades II arachne quest guide explains the reported requirements, the dialogue checkpoints worth tracking, and why completing the story does not necessarily mean restoring Arachne’s human form.

Spoiler warning: The walkthrough below reveals who helped create Arachne’s curse and how her confrontation with Athena ends.

These are community-reported mechanical requirements. The story scenes follow Arachne’s quest dialogue.

For general game information, visit the Hades II Steam store page.

Think of this storyline as several connected conversations rather than a single errand. Arachne must explain her suffering, Hecate must address the curse’s origin, and Athena must agree to hear Arachne’s request. Their conversations have separate prerequisites, so encountering the right character does not always produce the next quest scene.

Prepare Your Friendships and Athena’s Keepsake

Before concentrating on dialogue, check the relationship requirements reported in the community guide. Work toward these milestones while pursuing the conversations, rather than discovering a missing friendship requirement late in the chain.

Character or itemCommunity-reported requirementRelevant checkpoint
ArachneFriendship 3; ArachneGift03Her initial request to reverse the curse
HecateFriendship 3; HecateGift03Her disclosure that she knows the poison’s creator
AthenaFriendship 2; AthenaGift02Melinoe’s first conversation with her about Arachne
AthenaFriendship 3; AthenaGift03Athena’s second conversation about Arachne
AthenaFriendship 5; AthenaGift05Athena’s proposal to meet through her amulet
Gorgon AmuletAthena’s keepsake equipped during the relevant Arachne encounterThe final confrontation

These numbers are reported friendship thresholds. They should not be treated as a separate shopping list or a guaranteed count of additional gifts needed from your current position.

Is finishing the main story required?

Whether that requirement applies is unknown. You can complete the quest after the first credits and before the Golden Age epilogue achievement.

That distinction matters: one player’s completion timing does not prove a universal unlock condition.

The opening also depends on earlier Arachne dialogue. ArachneAboutPride01 is the starting checkpoint, but the number of encounters needed beforehand is unknown. Her first direct request additionally requires either ArachneAboutHecate02 or ArachneWithHecateInHub01.

For the Hades II arachne quest, tracking conversations is therefore more useful than counting visits alone.

Follow Arachne and Hecate’s Curse Conversations

The opening stretch moves between Arachne in the Underworld, Hecate at the Crossroads, and Hecate’s boss encounter.

Melinoe initially believes the transformation cannot be reversed through her craft. Hecate later explains that a remedy depends on identifying the curse’s source and changing Athena’s intent.

The following sequence summarizes the community guide’s early checkpoints. Its numbered order is a useful walkthrough, but the listed dependencies determine which conversations are actually required.

StepCharacter and locationDialogue checkpointCommunity-reported prerequisites
1Arachne, UnderworldArachneAboutPride01Earlier encounters; exact starting requirements unspecified
2Arachne, UnderworldArachneAboutCurse01Step 1, Arachne friendship 3, and either prerequisite Hecate-related Arachne conversation
3Hecate, CrossroadsHecateAboutArachne01Step 2
4Hecate, Underworld boss encounterHecateBossAboutArachne01Step 3
5Arachne, UnderworldArachneAboutCurse02Steps 2 and 4
6Hecate, CrossroadsHecateAboutArachne02Step 4
7Hecate, CrossroadsHecateAboutArachne03Step 5, Hecate friendship 3, and one qualifying earlier conversation
8Arachne, UnderworldArachneAboutCurse03Steps 5 and 7

For step 7, the qualifying earlier conversations are HecateAboutArachne01, HecateAboutArachne02, or ArachneWithHecateInHub01. These are reported alternatives, not three requirements that must all be completed.

Recognize the story checkpoints

You do not need to memorize every dialogue identifier for the Hades II arachne quest. The conversations themselves provide useful landmarks:

  • Arachne asks whether Melinoe can restore her former body.
  • Melinoe asks Hecate to help ease Arachne’s suffering.
  • Hecate explains why reversing the curse is complicated.
  • Melinoe tells Arachne that a theoretical solution exists.
  • Hecate reveals that she knows who fashioned the poison.
  • Melinoe invites Arachne to seek that knowledge at the Crossroads.

These are summaries of the conversations, not verbatim dialogue.

The next revelation is significant: Hecate supplied the poison Athena used in the curse. Hecate’s involvement is distinct from Athena’s continuing responsibility for the curse. Finding out who made the poison does not undo the transformation on its own.

Watch for the Crossroads scene

The community guide’s next Underworld checkpoint requires ArachneWithHecateInHub02, a Crossroads scene that its numbered walkthrough does not separately detail. Arachne confronts Hecate there after learning the truth.

Watch for that encounter after delivering Hecate’s invitation. Do not expect the invitation to lead to an immediate transition.

This scene is an important dependency in the Hades II arachne quest, even though it is easy to overlook in a numbered checklist.

Persuade Athena and Unlock the Minor Prophecy

After Hecate’s admission, Arachne has more to say about what happened. Meanwhile, Melinoe must raise the matter with Athena.

The first Athena conversation takes place on a Surface run. Encounter her after the City of Ephyra boss.

The later Athena conversations have no route restriction specified here. They still require the appropriate dialogue history and friendship progress.

StepEncounterDialogue checkpointCommunity-reported prerequisites
9Arachne with Hecate, UnderworldHecateWithArachne01_FollowUpArachneWithHecateInHub02
10Arachne, UnderworldArachneAboutCurse04Step 9
11Arachne, UnderworldArachneAboutCurse05Step 10
12Athena, SurfaceAthenaAboutArachne01Step 4 and Athena friendship 2
13Athena, route unspecifiedAthenaAboutArachne02Step 12, Athena friendship 3, and at least 3 runs since step 12
14Athena, route unspecifiedAthenaAboutArachne03Steps 11 and 13, plus Athena friendship 5
15Arachne, UnderworldArachneCurseQuest01Steps 11 and 14
16Arachne, UnderworldArachneCurseQuestComplete01Step 15 and Athena’s keepsake equipped

The three-run interval applies specifically between Athena’s first and second Arachne conversations. It is not a general waiting period for every step.

Also, the community guide lists Athena’s first conversation as depending on Hecate’s boss explanation, not on finishing every intervening Arachne conversation. Pursue the Athena and Arachne branches as their prerequisites become available.

What unlocks the prophecy?

ArachneCurseQuest01 should unlock the Minor Prophecy. This is the conversation in which Melinoe proposes bringing Athena to Arachne through the amulet.

It follows Athena’s agreement to consider a direct meeting. Athena wants to hear from Arachne herself rather than continue discussing the matter solely through Melinoe.

That makes step 15 the key preparation checkpoint for finishing the Hades II arachne quest. Having the keepsake alone does not replace the earlier conversation.

Finish the Quest and Diagnose Stalled Progress

After Arachne has heard the proposal, equip Athena’s Gorgon Amulet and encounter her on an Underworld run. You need the keepsake equipped for ArachneCurseQuestComplete01.

Melinoe offers to summon Athena, Arachne agrees, and the confrontation follows. The community guide reports that this scene should complete the Minor Prophecy and award the Silk and Spitefulness achievement.

Why won’t the next conversation appear?

Competing dialogue priorities can delay progress. Hecate may discuss the Vow of Rivals instead, while Athena may prioritize a conversation related to Prometheus following a Surface run.

Separate a missing prerequisite from a conversation that simply has not taken priority yet.

The final scene does not triggerThe proposal conversation and equipped Gorgon AmuletConfirm both before another Arachne encounter

These checks follow the community-reported conditions; they are not guarantees that the next eligible encounter will select quest dialogue.

Does Arachne become human again?

No—she remains a spider.

Athena offers to consider her request if Arachne sincerely apologizes. Arachne starts to comply, then rejects the demand and reasserts her pride in her weaving. Athena leaves without lifting the curse.

Melinoe initially sees the meeting as a lost opportunity. Arachne’s later dialogue gives it another meaning: confronting Athena helps her stop organizing her hopes around the goddess’s forgiveness. She also acknowledges that her connection with Melinoe already matters in its present form.

The ending therefore distinguishes physical restoration from personal closure. For the Hades II arachne quest, the confrontation marks completion.

FAQ

How do I start the Hades II arachne quest?

ArachneAboutPride01 is the opening checkpoint. Arachne’s subsequent request requires friendship 3 and either ArachneAboutHecate02 or ArachneWithHecateInHub01. The exact number of encounters needed beforehand is unspecified.

Do I need Athena’s Gorgon Amulet to finish?

Yes. The final dialogue requires Athena’s keepsake equipped and the earlier ArachneCurseQuest01 proposal completed. Encounter Arachne in the Underworld with those requirements met.

Why does Athena keep discussing other topics?

Other dialogue may take priority. Check friendship requirements and previous conversations first, including the three-run interval before Athena’s second Arachne discussion. An unrelated conversation does not automatically mean a prerequisite is missing.

Can Silk and Spitefulness finish without breaking Arachne’s curse?

Yes. Completion is tied to Arachne’s confrontation with Athena. Athena leaves without reversing the curse. In the conversations that follow, Arachne expresses a new sense of freedom.
