What the Hades 2 true ending requires
The Hades 2 true ending asks you to connect two boss routes through repeated victories and two Incantations. The Hades 2 true ending route finishes with a final fight against Chronos after Typhon has been permanently defeated. This guide follows the steps described in IGN’s Hades 2 True Ending guide, published for the game’s 1.0 release. Expect spoilers for the progression requirements and the epilogue’s general premise. The ending’s specific dialogue and revelations are left out.
| Milestone | What it accomplishes |
|---|---|
| Defeat Chronos and gather Zodiac Sand | Provides the material needed for Dissolution of Time |
| Reach the Surface and defeat Typhon | Opens the route to permanently end the Surface boss fight |
| Cast both boss-ending Incantations | Makes the final Chronos victory possible |
| Defeat Chronos again | Completes the main ending and leads to the epilogue |
The route spans both sides of Melinoë’s journey. The Underworld path passes through Erebus, Oceanus, the Fields of Mourning, and Tartarus before Chronos. The Surface path includes the City of Ephyra, the Rift of Thessaly, Mount Olympus, and The Summit before Typhon. Each route has guardians to overcome along the way, and the final goal depends on materials earned through boss victories as well as Incantations cast at the Crossroads.
A good approach is to keep the two route goals in view as you progress: Chronos is tied to Zodiac Sand, while Typhon is tied to Void Lens and, after his permanent defeat, Entropy. That distinction helps explain why both routes feed into the final sequence. The Underworld also supplies ingredients for Unraveling a Fateful Bond, while Oceanus and Erebus appear in its ingredient list too.
Prepare to reach Typhon on the Surface
The Surface is reached through the door opposite the Underworld entrance, but Melinoë cannot explore it freely at the beginning. Reaching the Surface is part of the Hades 2 true ending route, and it requires two Incantations: Permeation of Witching Wards opens the gate, while Unraveling a Fateful Bond allows Melinoë to breathe the Surface air and travel there unhindered.

IGN says Permeation of Witching Wards becomes available after continued Underworld runs and encounters that can include Hermes. The encounters are described as random; Hecate eventually gives you the Incantation after one of these runs. The guide says there is nothing specific you can do to make this encounter happen faster, so a good approach is to continue making Underworld runs and speak with Hecate when the opportunity arises. That Incantation opens the gate, but the Surface curse still prevents Melinoë from staying there freely until she casts Unraveling a Fateful Bond.
The second Incantation has a longer chain involving Moros. If he is already at the Crossroads, the guide says to proceed to the Surface-related part of the sequence. Otherwise, its listed steps are:
| Step | Requirement |
|---|---|
| 1 | Cast Fated Intervention |
| 2 | Meet Moros after a failed Underworld run |
| 3 | Check the Fated List of Minor Prophecies he leaves at the Crossroads |
| 4 | Cast Doomed Beckoning to call for Moros |
| 5 | Fail another Underworld run so Moros permanently comes to the Crossroads |
| 6 | Perish on the Surface because of the curse |
| 7 | Speak to Moros at the Crossroads to receive Unraveling a Fateful Bond |
The Incantation requires ingredients found in different places. The guide lists two each of Thalamus, Moss, Lotus, and Nightshade. Thalamus comes from Plant Origin Seeds; Moss is found on the Surface, Lotus in Oceanus, and Nightshade in Erebus with a Silver Spade. Since the recipe draws from several locations, a good approach is to note each ingredient’s listed source as you make progress through the relevant areas.
| Ingredient | Amount | Source listed in the guide |
|---|---|---|
| Thalamus | 2 | Plant Origin Seeds |
| Moss | 2 | Surface |
| Lotus | 2 | Oceanus |
| Nightshade | 2 | Erebus, using a Silver Spade |
Defeat each boss permanently
After gaining Surface access, work toward Typhon, the final boss of that route and a milestone on the Hades 2 true ending path. Reaching him means fighting through the Surface regions and their guardians: the City of Ephyra, the Rift of Thessaly, Mount Olympus, and The Summit. The Underworld route to Chronos passes through Erebus, Oceanus, the Fields of Mourning, and Tartarus, where guardians also stand between Melinoë and the next area.

A victory alone does not permanently remove either boss. The guide says bosses return to fight again on a later night after defeat. For Chronos, the required Incantation is Dissolution of Time. It unlocks after the first Chronos victory, but Chronos cannot be defeated for good until you cast it. The guide lists five Zodiac Sand as the amount needed, earned by defeating Chronos.
Typhon has a separate Incantation, Disintegration of Monstrosity. Its ingredients include a reward from Zagreus after six Chronos victories, materials earned by defeating Typhon, and Zodiac Sand from Chronos. Casting it makes it possible to defeat Typhon once and for all. That final Typhon victory earns Entropy, which is required for Dissolution of Time.
| Incantation | Materials listed | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Disintegration of Monstrosity | 1 Gigaros, 4 Void Lens, 1 Zodiac Sand | Allows Typhon to be defeated permanently; the final victory grants Entropy |
| Dissolution of Time | 5 Zodiac Sand, 1 Entropy | Allows the final Chronos victory |
The guide describes Gigaros as a gift from Zagreus after defeating Chronos six times, Void Lens as earned by defeating Typhon, and Zodiac Sand as earned by defeating Chronos. These materials connect the routes: Chronos victories provide Zodiac Sand, Typhon victories provide Void Lens, and permanently defeating Typhon provides Entropy. The requirements also mean the two boss-ending Incantations depend on progress against both bosses.
Keep the ingredient lists separate when planning these casts. Disintegration of Monstrosity requires one Gigaros, four Void Lens, and one Zodiac Sand; Dissolution of Time requires five Zodiac Sand and one Entropy. The guide says the first spell enables Typhon’s permanent defeat, and the resulting Entropy is needed for the second. A good approach is to check both recipes at the Crossroads Cauldron before setting out, so you can see which boss materials remain necessary.
Cast the final Incantation and reach the epilogue
Once you have defeated Typhon permanently and received Entropy, return to the Crossroads Cauldron. The Hades 2 true ending sequence calls for Dissolution of Time, which requires five Zodiac Sand and one Entropy. With both boss-ending Incantations cast, the guide’s final step is to travel through Tartarus and face Chronos again.

| Final step | Requirement or result |
|---|---|
| Defeat Typhon permanently | Cast Disintegration of Monstrosity first |
| Earn Entropy | Defeat Typhon for the last time |
| Prepare Dissolution of Time | Have 5 Zodiac Sand and 1 Entropy |
| End Chronos’s return | Cast Dissolution of Time |
| Complete the story | Defeat Chronos again |
IGN estimates roughly 40 minutes of gameplay after the final Chronos fight before the postgame content concludes. That is the guide’s estimate, not a fixed duration for every playthrough. The guide says the aftermath sets up the postgame, but its specific revelations are beyond the scope of this spoiler-light walkthrough.
Player experience: A postgame player video shows Melinoë meeting the three Fates after the main conflict. In their conversation, they say they are safe and explain that Moros had been searching for them. They also describe letting gods and mortals choose their own paths for a time. The exchange points toward a possible new age while leaving the future uncertain.
A practical route checklist
The two routes contribute different pieces to the ending sequence. On the Underworld route, Chronos is the source of Zodiac Sand, and the guide says Dissolution of Time unlocks after the first Chronos victory. Its five Zodiac Sand requirement means the material is tied to further Chronos victories. The guide also lists a Gigaros reward from Zagreus after six Chronos victories for the Typhon-ending Incantation.
On the Surface route, Permeation of Witching Wards opens the gate and Unraveling a Fateful Bond lets Melinoë withstand the Surface air. Typhon is the final boss of that route. The guide lists Void Lens among the materials earned from Typhon, and his permanent defeat grants Entropy. That Entropy is then used with Zodiac Sand in the Crossroads Cauldron to cast Dissolution of Time.
Taken together, the Hades 2 true ending requires defeating Chronos repeatedly, reaching and defeating Typhon, casting Disintegration of Monstrosity, and then casting Dissolution of Time. The last Chronos victory follows those steps and leads into the epilogue.
FAQ
Do I need to defeat Chronos more than once for the Hades 2 true ending?
Yes. The guide says Chronos provides Zodiac Sand for Dissolution of Time, which requires five. It also lists a Gigaros reward from Zagreus after six Chronos victories as part of Disintegration of Monstrosity’s requirements.
Do I need to defeat Typhon before the final Chronos fight?
Yes. The route requires casting Disintegration of Monstrosity, defeating Typhon permanently, and earning Entropy. You then use that Entropy with Zodiac Sand to cast Dissolution of Time.
What does the Hades 2 true ending unlock after Chronos?
It leads into the postgame. IGN estimates about 40 minutes of gameplay after the final Chronos fight, though this is the guide’s estimate.
What Incantations let Melinoë reach the Surface?
Permeation of Witching Wards opens the gate to the Surface. Unraveling a Fateful Bond allows her to breathe the air there and explore unhindered.
